Saigon, the vibrant and bustling city in southern Vietnam, known for its rich culture, world-famous cuisine, and historical landmarks, makes it a top travel destination in Southeast Asia. Many tourists opt to hop around the country during their trip, with Saigon being a must-see on their list. This begs the question of when is the best time to visit Saigon. We’ve created a guide for all seasons so you can start planning your trip!
Spring
Springtime in Saigon lands from February to April and is a season of new beginnings. While the weather is generally warm and dry, don’t be surprised if an afternoon thunderstorm makes a rare appearance. During springtime, the city comes alive with colorful flowers and joyful festivities, particularly during the Lunar New Year, known as Tet. This is one of the most important festivals in Vietnam. The locals adorn the streets and alleyways with vibrant decorations such as flowers and fruit trees offering up good fortune for the new year. Locals gather to celebrate with music, dance, and Tet food. It's an ideal time if you want to immerse yourself in the local customs and witness the cultural celebrations that mark the beginning of a new year.
Pro tip: Pack for warm weather. A light jacket is always recommended to protect you from the sun or rain. And for all year round, remember to stay hydrated!

Summer
Relish in cooler temperatures after an afternoon rain.
As the heat of spring leaves us, summer arrives in Saigon from May to August. This is also around the time that Saigon’s famous rainy season begins. Generally speaking, mornings are sunny, humid, and warm with thunderstorms rolling in mid-afternoon. However, we can never predict the weather. But don’t the thought of rain deter you! While it can rain almost every day, the rain shower in Saigon usually lasts for less than an hour. This is also the best time to indulge in tropical fruits such as mangoes and pineapples but it’s also the ideal time to try local favorites like mangosteen and rambutan (sound funny? Trust us, it’s delicious!).
Autumn
While Saigon doesn’t have an actual autumn, the fall season in Saigon is from September to November and is a season of beauty and tranquility. The weather cools down slightly from the summer and while the occasional rainfall is still possible, it’s another great time to enjoy the outdoors. Take a stroll and experience local life along the tree-lined canal in District 1, hit the park, the pool, or take a short drive outside of the city and enjoy the beach!
Pro tip: A great season to enjoy breathtaking sunsets on a rooftop bar!

Winter
If you’re looking to escape the chilly winter temperatures at home and enjoy the holiday season in shorts, Saigon is a perfect destination! Southern Vietnam doesn’t experience traditional winters and remains warm with low humidity, with the possibility of the rare occasional rain storm during the winter months is low. But if you’re still wanting a festive experience, you won’t be disappointed. As Christianity is one of the top religions in Vietnam, second to Buddhism, the city comes alive with festive activities to celebrate Christmas and the Western New Year. Alleyways transform into markets filled with holiday decor and shopping centers into winter wonderlands. Come join in the joyful festivities while indulging in festive treats like banh chuoi nuong (grilled banana cake). Saigon may not have snow, but it certainly knows how to ignite your holiday spirit and spread joy.
